Launch of New Charity: The J B Jeyaretnam Foundation
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
January 05th 2021
On this day in 1926, J B Jeyaretnam, the first Opposition MP to be elected to Parliament post-1965, was born. JBJ, as he was affectionately known, passed away on 30 September 2008.
Though he can no Ionger be with us his legacy lives on to be preserved for future generations.
We are very excited to announce today, on JBJ’s birthday, that a charity in his name is to be set up in Singapore. The new charity will be called the J B Jeyaretnam Foundation. (subject to regulatory approval)
The objective of this charity will be poverty relief concentrating on the pockets of poverty amongst marginalized groups that were dear to JBJ’s heart.
Some of you may know that we held a dinner to raise funds for this project a couple of years ago. We are delighted that JBJ’s protégé, M. Ravi, has kindly agreed to do the legal work for setting up the Charity at a generously reduced rate, to match the funds we have already raised. Therefore we will not be requesting donations at this stage.
If you would like to find out more or want to become involved in this exciting project or just wish to make a donation in the future please contact us below.
We look forward to your enquiries.
